TEHRAN -- On the occasion of the Arbor Week, hundreds of lovers of nature Saturday staged rallies in Khorramabad, the capital city of Lorestan Province, IRNA reported.

The participants, most of whom wore green outfits, carried placards and banners demanding the preservation of nature and natural resources.

The demonstrators, mostly students and youngsters, ended their rally with a final resolution that emphasized on prevention of deforestation and destruction of woods and rangelands.

The rally was aimed at directing the public opinion attention to preservation of natural resources, said a Lorestan Province Natural Resources Organization official who was leading the rallies.

Lorestan Province enjoys two million hectares of rangelands. 85 to 90 percent of the rangelands in the province are not in a good shape due to the uncontrolled cattle's grazing.
